First 24+5 hours of the project

The game jam's first one and one half-ish day is over. As a way to destress and prepare for the last hurrah of tomorrow I felt like it would be a good idea share some of my toughts on this first half of the game making process.

First of all, this is my first game jam entry, that is a real game, not just a tech demo because I wanted to test something out for my big project. Second of all, I never expected to do this much in this little time. It's actually really empowering. On my big project I have been working on for 2 years now, progress is actually very slow. I have entered "development hell" and making levels/bug fixing is just infinitely less exciting than creating something new. Especially when you need to sit and watch as Unity slowly calculates the levels' lighting wrong, for the 14th time.

Anyways, enough of other projects.

I remember thinking and noting down various game ideas that I could use for this game jam. Then the theme was announced and I started panicking because none of them could be used for it. Thankfully I came up with a simple, third-person adaptation of my big project and was able to very rapidly make the game; which is very hand in a 48-hour marathon game jam. I have enjoyed working on this project so far, including the parts where I went to play Shadow the Hedgehog because Unity got me so worked up. I love this engine but some of its quirks drive me up the wall. Anyways, hopefully I'll have a very good release tomorrow, might continue this tought process then.
